Among other great treasures, Reggio Calabria's Museo Nazionale houses the Bronzi di Riace, only discovered on the shores of the Ionian in 1972. Their unknown sculptor likely created the pair as long ago as 500 BC. Created out of bronze, they are protected in an earthquake-proof room.
